This little cutie pie, Suri, was slated to be euthanized at a local kill shelter. We are not sure why she was dumped there, perhaps it is because she was a medical mess, but we felt she deserved TLC and a new lease on life!
Suri is a Pekingese (or high mix) and as is common with her breed, she was diagnosed with end stage KCS (or dry eye). This condition is common in small breeds and is TOTALLY treatable. She didn't have to lose her vision if only someone had treated her eyes early on. Suri will never regain her site, but she will get gel drops in them for life to keep them comfortable and clean! In addition, Suri's skin was a horrible mess. She had pyoderma and a moderate yeast infection. She had a yeast infection in her ears as well. After 7 months of hard work, vet visits, lots of antibiotics, medicated baths, ophthalmic gel drops, high quality food, loads of supplements, and tons of love - this girl has improved 90%! Suri was moved to a new foster home for more one-on-one and continued treatments. Since, her foster family has fallen in love with her and she is being adopted as of 3/5/09! She is so very special to us and we couldn't be happier about her adoption and new canine siblings! All dogs receive a distemper/parvovirus vaccine(s), kennel cough vaccine, rabies vaccine, dewormer, monthly heartworm prevention, and are spayed/neutered through CARE.
